Ideal Dermatology: Boulder's Skin Care Solution deal Dermatology is equipped and able to perform nearly every skin procedure available.

BOULDER, CO, USA, May 18, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ -- This is the story of an accomplished Skin Cancer surgeon from Hawaii with a passion for patient care who docked, so to speak, in Boulder and never left.
But let's back up.

After earning his medical degree at the University of Iowa followed by an internship in general surgery, Kevin J. Mott, MD, was stationed in Hawaii with the Navy for five years and did a tour as a battalion surgeon in the Gulf War. With his distinguished military service behind him, Dr. Mott completed a residency and fellowship in dermatology and dermatologic surgery at the University of Missouri. Then it was back to Hawaii, where he practiced for 15 years.

So when Dr. Mott opened Ideal Dermatology, PC., a state-of-the-art facility at 905 Alpine Ave. in the autumn of 2015, he'd already had a stellar medical career and could have sat on his laurels, but that was never his way. "I chose Boulder because, like Hawaii, it was an 'ideal' setting of a population of patients that lived extremely healthy lifestyles, but was at risk for skin cancers and sun damage because of the outdoor lifestyles they enjoyed."

Credentials? Dr. Mott is board-certified in dermatology, fellowship-trained in Mohs micrographic surgery, and was voted annually for several years one of Hawaii's "Best Doctors." In addition to his love of the outdoors and passion for patient care, he brought to Boulder 15 years of experience treating skin cancer and sun damage as well as advanced reconstructive techniques. Dr. Mott is past president of the Hawaii Dermatological Society and a member of the ACMS, ASDS, AACS, and AAD.

Why dermatology?
Dr. Mott was drawn to dermatology during his time in the Navy in Hawaii because it is a very visual form of medicine in terms of pattern recognition and is also procedural. "I was fascinated in disease that you could actually see, touch and cure a high percentage of the time," he says. "I have always loved working with my hands, and, as a result, loved the notion of performing skin surgery."

With all the cyclists, rock climbers, runners, hikers, and triathletes in the Boulder area, you can bet that a fair number have learned the hard way about protecting their skin in the great outdoors. According to Dr. Mott, skin cancers are more prevalent than 20 years ago and we are still in fact in the midst of a skin cancer epidemic that began as baby boomers in the 1960s changed their sun exposure habits and tanning became both desirable and common. "Since the development of skin cancers follows sun exposure by several decades and is a gradual accumulation of DNA damage, we still have not seen the peak of this epidemic and it will require decades of changes in sun protection practices to begin to see a decrease in the incidence of skin cancer," Dr. Mott explains.

But the news isn't all bad! The past decade, Dr. Mott says, has seen refinements in skin cancer surgery and reconstruction in particular: "Lasers have advanced so that various improvements in skin quality can be achieved with higher safety and less downtime. And the advent of superficial radiotherapy (SRT) as a simple and easy treatment in a dermatology office, rather than a radiation center, has made this form of skin cancer treatment accessible and convenient for patients to consider this option."

Full service
Ideal Dermatology is equipped and able to perform nearly every skin procedure available. That means skin surgery, laser treatments, cosmetic treatments and surgery as well as superficial radiation for skin cancers. There is absolutely no need to drive to Denver to see a doctor for a scary looking mole, skin cancer, laser hair removal, acne scars, or reconstructive surgery. There's not enough space here to list every procedure and service available at Ideal Dermatology, but see the website below for details.

We can, however, tell you more about Dr. Mott's dermatological methods - how he does what he does. The good doctor's practice is almost 100 percent procedural, which means that he performs skin surgery or laser procedures. As mentioned above, he's fellowship-trained in Mohs micrographic surgery and therefore spends the majority of his clinical time performing skin cancer surgery and reconstruction. However, Ideal Dermatology is a full-service skin cancer center and as such offers medical (nonsurgical) treatments for skin cancer when appropriate as well as SRT - a non-invasive form of skin cancer treatment. When he's not attacking skin cancer, Dr. Mott is usually performing laser surgery and cosmetic surgery including liposuction.

Dr. Mott and staff are fiercely dedicated to the health and comfort of their patients. If you have a skin-related issue, simply give them a call and make an initial appointment. Your first visit will include a consult explaining any diagnosis and options for treating what ails you. Many cosmetic treatments and minor procedures can be done that day!

With Ideal Dermatology, you're in the safe, capable, and experienced hands of a whole team that understands the risks of sun damage and wants to keep you engaged in your favorite outdoor hobbies with a renewed emphasis on skin safety. "We would like to reach everyone who cares about the health of their skin, is at risk for skin cancer, or wants to improve the quality or appearance of their skin," says Dr. Mott.
