Expert group to advise government on women's rights

KATHMANDU: The government has constituted a 'women expert group' to give suggestions and advice to the government on women's rights, women's uplifting, awareness and empowerment.

Right activist Chandani Joshi is the coordinator of the group which comprises Anuradha Koirala, Bandana Rana, Lily Thapa and Shanta Laxmi Shrestha as members.

Minister for Women, Children and Social Welfare Kumar Khadka shared at a press meet here today that the Ministry recently formed the panel.

Khadka said the government was working on a scheme to provide free treatment of uterine and breast cancers.

Meanwhile, Khadka informed that the provision was in the offing to compel civil service employees and people working in health, security and private sectors to deposit 10 per cent of their salary in the bank accounts of their biological parents and also prohibit parents from transferring all their properties in the name of children.

The provision shall allow parents only giving their properties not exceeding 75 per cent to their offspring.

The Ministry hopes that the introduction and implementation of such provision would particularly benefit aged citizens, according to Khadka.
