Amy Dowden discusses her recovery following cancer

Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden smiled sweetly in a picture taken in the Good Hope Oncology Ward as she issued a health update. The 34-year-old BBC star posted the image to her Instagram stories. In it, she was wearing a stylish short sleeved knitted Breton style top and sitting on a hospital bed with a pillow behind her and a blanket to her side. On the image she wrote: "At home and straight to my monthly (crutch emoji). But the sun is shining!" The crutch emoji is used when people are discussing accidents, healing, or when talking about assistance for someone who is hurt.

Although Amy received the all clear from cancer in February 2024 in August that year she admitted she would still be undergoing treatment for a further five years. "I still have my monthly injection and will do for the next five years but at the moment my tests are good, everything is positive," she said during an appearace on This Morning.

In May 2023, Amy was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer after the harrowing discovery of a lump in her breast.

After doctors recognised there were two types of cancer: ductal and lobular, the dancer underwent a mastectomy, chemotherapy, and fertility treatment.

In February last year, Amy, who received an MBE in the King's Birthday Honours List this year, took to Instagram with the update and shared that getting the all clear was “words I dreamed of” and her “biggest accomplishment yet".

While the dancer underwent fertility treatment she confessed it was still too soon to consider motherhood during an appearance on Loose Women earlier this year.

She shared her plans for motherhood and said she hopes to “be someone's mum” one day.

She explained: “So, at the moment, it would be too soon. I had a hormone-fed cancer, so I have been put into early menopause and it would be too dangerous now to consider it.

“But I really want to be a mum, I've always wanted to be a mum," she confessed.

"We do have five embryos, and I hope one day, if it's safe to do so, I do get the privilege and honour to be someone's mum.”
