Indiana State run-ruled host Belmont 15-3 in eight innings in a Missouri Valley Conference baseball matchup Friday night at ES Rose Park in Nashville, Tenn.
ISU’s starting pitcher Max McEwen got credit for the win, striking out 11 batters over seven innings.
The Sycamores’ offense started fast as Weston Fulk blasted a two-run homer with room to spare as he and Carlos Pena scored to give ISU a 2-0 lead in the first inning. The Sycamores made it 3-0 in the second when Carter Beck singled to plate Jeremy Martinez.
But the Bruins struck back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning to pull within 3-2.
Indiana State had runners on second and third as the Sycamores looked to push their lead with two down in the third. A Belmont enabled Thomas Emerich and Keegan Garis to race home, boosting their advantage to 5-2.
From there, the game calmed down a bit until Indiana State found itself with the bases loaded on a walk in the top of the fifth with just one down. The Sycamores pushed their lead to 7-2 when Nomar Garcia hit a single through the middle, scoring Jackson Taylor and Garis.
Belmont made it a four-run game with a Landon Godsey solo homer in the bottom of the sixth at 7-3.
But the Sycamores went back to their offensive ways in the top of the seventh as they put men on first and second with no outs.
Those two runners touched home after Martinez smacked a double to boost ISU’s advantage to 9-3.
The visitors chalked up six more runs over the next two innings and the game was over.
Rematches are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday afternoon.

Next — Indiana State (15-14 overall, 5-2 MVC) and Belmont (11-20, 2-5) are scheduled to duel again in Nashville at the rescheduled time of 1 p.m. Saturday.
