A Catholic girl's high school soccer team in Milwaukee got a big gift on Friday from a Green Bay Packer. Inside the St. Joan Antida High School gym, the excitement is building.
"Honestly, love our soccer team. We have a really strong build community. Our practices are really fun. We work with multiple different people, so we have different experiences," Illiana Zuno, a junior on the varsity soccer team, said.
The school held a pep rally for the varsity soccer team to start the season as they look ahead on a winning note.
"I mean, in the past three years, we've only lost two games," team captain Brisa Sernsa said.
The soccer players and staff held a scrimmage game to ramp up excitement for a new season. And there two worlds in sports collided. A video message from Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love played to announce he's giving the team brand-new cleats. It's part of his "10ve for Cleats" program.
"We're so grateful. We know that cleats are really pricey. It's like incredible. Like out of all the things that he could be doing. He's choosing to support soccer. And especially in an all-girls school in the city," Serna said.
The coach said it's a blessing, with cleats costing upwards of $100.
"I know if you look good, you play good. So they look good. They feel good with those cleats on. I know they'll perform just as well," Elena Vasquez said.
The students thanked No. 10 and made a special request of him.
"Jordan Love. It'd be really cool if you came to one of our games and saw us in action in our cleats. So, invitation," Serna said.
The Jaguars will get the chance to test out those new cleats Tuesday, April 8, in their very first game of the season.
