As The World Turns soap star Marnie Schulenburg dies at age 37 of breast cancer after spending final Mother's Day with toddler daughter at home on oxygen machine

The soap opera star Marnie Schulenburg has died at the age of 37 after a two-year battle with cancer.

The television star died Tuesday in a hospital in Bloomfield, New Jersey, from stage-four metastatic breast cancer, her rep Kyle Luker at Industry Entertainment told The Hollywood Reporter.

She was best known for her work on the popular soaps As The World Turns and One Life To Live.

On May 8, Schulenburg celebrated what would come to be her final Mother's Day with a moving Instagram post featuring photos of herself raising her daughter Coda, now two, as her health deteriorated.

'It wasn’t a guarantee that I was going to be home this Mother’s Day,' she wrote in her caption. 'I got released late Friday night but had to be sent home with an oxygen machine.'

'It’s not my ideal to be a 38 year old Mom who needs an oxygen tank to survive right now,' she continued, though she would die just days before her 38th birthday on May 21. 'I want to be strong and beautiful for [Coda]. I want to show her how to move throughout this world with compassion, strength, vivacity, humor and joy like my Mother showed me.

'I know that me being here for her is the best gift I can give her but right now it feels like settling since she’s getting a half-life version of myself,' she continued, adding that she hoped to give her daughter as much love and attention as her own mother had devoted to her.

While starring on As The World Turns, Schulenburg was frequently paired up with Billy Magnussen, who would later appear in Game Night and the James Bond film No Time To Die. 

In addition to her biggest roles, Schulenburg also had guest-starring roles on popular primetime shows including Blue Bloods, Army Wives, Royal Pains, Divorce and The Good Fight.

Earlier this year, she played the role of Maggie Caysen on the Showtime drama City On A Hill.

The star is survived by her actor husband Zack Robidas, who is best known for his work in Succession and Sorry for Your Loss. They wed in 2013 and welcomed their daughter Coda in 2019.

Her husband confirmed her death in a Facebook post from Wednesday, according to Variety.

'Please don’t say Marnie lost her battle to cancer,' he urged his followers. 'It’s simply not true. I watched her kick cancer’s ass everyday since diagnosis.

'She is incredible. We chose to attack her diagnosis with blind optimism. We only talked about the future and continued moving forward. I don’t know if this was right but it’s all we knew how to do,' he continued.

In her Mother's Day post, Schulenburg revealed that she got her diagnosis just days before the same holiday two years earlier. 

'On May 8, 2020 I found out I had Breast Cancer and truly thought my life was over. Two years later I'm still here and my chances of sticking around her better each month that goes by,' wrote the star.

'So here's to remembering that nothing is permanent. To soaking up the imperfections and that the best thing you can do for your child is make them feel loved, safe and supported just like my mother did for me.

Marnie was born in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, and raised in the state.

She attended Barnstable High School then moved on to DeSales University in Centre Valley, Pennsylvania, before graduating in 2006 with a degree in theatre. 

She started her acting career with productions at the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival.

Last year: In October 2021 she posed bald and said, 'I've been a lot less active this Breast Cancer awareness month than last and I think that's because I was searching for a reason WHY this incurable and cruel disease was inflicted upon my family and I last year'

In 2007, Marnie made her debut on daytime television in The Young And The Restless as Stewart following the character’s appearance on the online show Digital Daytime: LA Diaries, which also featured Adrienne Frantz, the actress behind the character Amber Moore.

Following this, she reprised the character in As the World Turns until the soap was canceled in 2010, the same year she got a Daytime Emmy nod before moving on One Life to Live as Sullivan.

She returned to the show when it was made into a Hulu and iTunes series in 2013.
