'She's doing well': Ron DeSantis reveals wife Casey finished last chemotherapy treatment for breast cancer

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) announced that Florida's first lady, Casey DeSantis, completed her final chemotherapy treatment.

The Florida governor delivered an update on his wife's condition at the end of a news conference on Thursday in Bowling Green, Florida.

"I just wanted to let everyone know that the first lady yesterday completed the final chemotherapy treatment that she has to do," DeSantis announced.

“It’s not the most fun thing to see someone to go through, but at the end of the day, she’s fought really hard. We think she’s responded very well.” DeSantis revealed. "She's still got more stuff to do, but that's a big milestone."

"She got through that. She ran that gauntlet, she's doing well, and we look forward to continue to have good news over the ensuing few weeks and months," DeSantis said.

Casey, 41, shared a video of her husband making the announcement on Twitter with a message to her husband: "Thank you for being by my side from the beginning, but especially yesterday as we celebrated my FINAL Chemo Treatment together. I’m grateful, very humbled and blessed."

DeSantis’ spokesperson Christina Pushaw thanked everyone for their prayers.

WFLA-TV reported that the first lady was treated by doctors at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa.

The DeSantis family revealed that Casey was diagnosed with breast cancer in October.

"As the mother of three young children, Casey is the centerpiece of our family and has made an impact on the lives of countless Floridians through her initiatives as first lady," the Republican governor said in October. "As she faces the most difficult test of her life, she will have not only have my unwavering support but the support of our entire family, as well as the prayers and well wishes from Floridians across our state. Casey is a true fighter, and she will never, never, never give up."

The couple has three children, all under the age of 5.

In early January, leftists such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and MSNBC host Joy Reid accused DeSantis of being on vacation as COVID-19 cases spiked in Florida. It turned out that DeSantis was accompanying his wife as she received treatment for breast cancer.

DeSantis made the announcement about his wife's last chemo treatment during a press conference where he awarded $2.3 million to six Florida colleges and trade schools to support instruction for truck drivers and nursing students.

The American Trucking Associations estimates a shortage of 160,000 truck drivers by 2030.

DeSantis proclaimed that he wants Florida to be the "No. 1 state for workforce education by 2030."
