Yeah. For the average women, their lifetime risk of developing breast cancer is 12.5%. Some women have intrinsic factors that increase their risk of developing breast cancer. But 85% of women with breast cancer have no family history of breast cancer. If you're over the age of 40 you can schedule your own mammogram. You do not need a referral. Most studies do not show an increased benefit for self or clinical breast exam, but I believe women should know and understand the feel and look of their own breast.
