The Community Health Center of Yavapai (CHCY) and Assured Imaging have partnered to host a Women’s Health Day on Thursday, March 18, at their Prescott location from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to provide on-site 3D mammograms.

A news release from Yavapai County states: “According to research, fewer breast cancers are being diagnosed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. During the height of the pandemic, many health care institutions suspended their screening programs and weren’t offering mammography to patients.”

The situation resulted in a nearly 50% drop in new diagnosis, according to a study in Journal of the American Medical Association.

“Experts agree that one activity you should not postpone, or neglect is getting your routine cancer screenings,” the news release adds. “The goal of screening is to catch cancers early, and early-stage cancers are not only easier to treat than later-stage cancer, but the chance of survival is much higher.”

As coronavirus cases and hospitalizations continue to decline nationwide, patients are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to complete their routine screening along with any other routine health checkups. For this reason, CHCY will also be providing other services such as pelvic exams and Pap tests, flu shots, blood pressure test, and colorectal cancer screening.

Assured Imaging is the nation’s leading provider of mobile digital mammography services, says the news release. “Utilizing both mobile digital 3D and 2D mammogram screenings, you will receive the latest in cutting-edge, proven technology,” it adds.

Benefits of 3D Breast Imaging include:

• 3D mammography enables physicians to see masses and distortions more clearly. Tomosynthesis obtains multiple images from a variety of angles through the entire breast. Even fine details become obvious because they’re no longer hidden by surrounding tissue as they would be with a two-dimensional mammogram.

• 3D mammography allows doctors to examine your breast tissue layer by layer. So, instead of viewing all of the complexities of your breast tissue in a flat image, as with traditional 2D mammography, fine details are more visible and no longer hidden by the tissue above or below.

• 3D mammography detects 41% more invasive breast cancers and reduces the chance that you will need to be called back for additional views by up to 40%.

The news release notes that CHCY has safety measures in place to mitigate the risk of disease transmission, including: a universal mask policy, which requires that everyone at CHCY must wear a mask – from healthcare providers to patients and visitors; complete personal protective equipment (PPE), with the entire care team is using full and proper PPE; rigorous sanitation and disinfection protocols, with staff drastically increasing the regular cleaning of every space, especially high use areas; accessible hand sanitizer, with multiple hand sanitizing stations located throughout the three clinics; physical distancing, with CHCY minimizing the amount of staff and patients in the clinics to reduce the risk of spread; temperature screenings, which are required upon entrance to all three clinic sites.

“Assured Imaging will also be taking all necessary precautions, such as: limiting the number of patients and medical staff onboard, sanitizing all imagery equipment between each patient, and complete PPE and masks for all professional staff and patients on board,” states the news release.

It adds: “If it’s time for you to come in for your annual screenings, please don’t let fear keep you from getting this life-saving screening. Cancer won’t wait until the pandemic ends. And you shouldn’t, either.”

All services require an appointment and no walk-ins are accepted. People should call the Community Health Center of Yavapai at 928-583-1000 to schedule an appointment.
