125 children suffering from cancer in Oman

Muscat: More than 100 children are suffering from cancer in Oman, a new report said.

As per the report, there were 125 cases of cancer cases reported among children in 2016. “The number of recorded cancer cases among Omani children aged 14 years and under were about 125 cases (7%),” according to statistics released by the Ministry of Health (MOH) on Sunday.

The number of cancer cases among Omani males reached 46.4 per cent while among the Omani females it touched 53.6 per cent.

“Breast cancer is the most common cancer among females, followed by thyroid cancer, and colorectal cancer. Prostate, colorectal cancer and liver cancer are the most common cancer among males,” the report added.

The Department of Non-Communicable Diseases, which was represented by the National Cancer Record, launched the report.

Meanwhile, over 2,000 tumour cases were reported among adults in 2016. “88.3 per cent of cases were reported among Omanis, while 10.7 per cent cases were among expatriates,” the report said.

“The number of recorded tumour cases in 2016 reached 2,015 including 1,780 cases among Omanis, while 215 cases were among expatriates.”
