Cooper Symon (right), 8, of Hoboken, N.J., fished Tuesday with Capt. Billy Davenport Jr. (left), of Vero Tackle and Marina, to catch and release this 39-inch, 27-pound snook in the Indian River Lagoon on 10-pound test line. Symon used a live shrimp to record the remarkable catch.

Hurricanes are a pain in the neck. Especially when attempting to plan an outdoors-related event like a fishing tournament. In Irma's wake, most area fishing tournaments will go on as planned. However, the hurricane did have one tournament casualty.

Lines in the Lagoon

Will fish Saturday, as scheduled. The fourth annual Lines in the Lagoon Tri-County Junior Angler Fishing Tournament, open to all junior anglers in kindergarten through 12th grade in Treasure and Space coast schools, will fish Saturday with captains' meetings scheduled for Friday. Anglers may fish the waters of St. Lucie, Indian River or Brevard counties with a catch, photo and release format logged into the iAngler tournament app.

The tournament will primarily benefit the Ocean Research and Conservation Association based in Fort Pierce, among others. Entry to the event is $25. The event is limited to the first 125 anglers and the entry deadline has been extended until Wednesday.

Anglers will fish for snook, redfish and trout with prizes also awarded for largest non-premium fish (not including tarpon or sharks), and an ugliest fish only eligible for anglers 12 and younger. Anglers must fish on lagoon waters, not in or beyond the inlets.

Captains' meetings will be held in four locations from 6-7 p.m. Friday: White's Tackle, 1106 U.S. 1, Fort Pierce; Vero Tackle, 3321 Bridge Plaza Drive, Vero Beach; Capt Hiram's, 1580 U.S. 1, Sebastian; and Harry Goode's Outdoor Shop, 1231 E. New Haven Ave., Melbourne. For more information, to register or purchase raffle tickets, go to https://www.linesinthelagoon.com

Snook A Palooza

Will begin Saturday, as scheduled. Organizers of the inaugural event, which fishes through Oct. 1, will be awarding cash prizes to the top three catchers of the longest snook in a catch, photo, release format tournament.

Entry fee is $30. Payout, based on 130 entries, is $1,500 for first, $750 for second and $350 for third. There will also be plenty of giveaways, raffle prizes and silent auction items. Proceeds will benefit Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.

The anglers' meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Pirates Cove Resort and Marina, 4307 S.E. Bayview St., Port Salerno. Fishing can take place as many or as few times as an angler chooses from after the meeting until 11:59 p.m. Oct. 1. For more information, find Treasure Coast Snook A Palooza on Facebook.

DOA Paddlers Tournament

Canceled. Organizers of the popular annual event were forced to cancel "due to problems associated with Hurricane Irma," according to DOA Lures' website. A spokesman for DOA Lures said the company may choose to host the event in the spring time again, when it originally used to take place, however, the location may move from Martin County to a west coast of Florida site.

Michael Shields Memorial Inshore Tournament

Will fish Sept. 30, as scheduled. The inshore fishing tournament, one of the most popular and well-attended on the Treasure Coast, will kick off with its Captains' Reception at 7 p.m. Sept. 29 at River Palm Cottages, 2325 N.E. Indian River Dr., Jensen Beach. Proceeds benefit Project LIFT. For complete details on the tournament, go to www.FishfortheKids.org or call 772-341-9821.

Chase N'Tailz KDW

The offshore fishing tournament targeting kingfish, dolphin and wahoo, now entering its fourth year, and paying out more than $75,000 in cash and prizes to competitors, raises funds to help research for a children's disease called Gaucher Type 2, which claimed the life of 10-month-old Chase Warren of Tequesta. The captains' meeting will be at 6 p.m. Sept. 28 on the rooftop at Harbourside Place, 200 U.S. 1, Jupiter. Fishing will take place Sept. 30. Entry is $300 per boat.
