A WOMAN from Haworth intends to carry out a 10-day trek across some of the world’s most spectacular terrain to help the charity Breast Cancer Care.

Pam Howorth, 50, plans to trek along the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, in Peru. And to help boost her fundraising total she has arranged a sponsored walk for next month a little closer to home.

Pam runs the Oh La La Vintage shop in Main Street, Haworth. She will take her first steps along the trail on March 30 next year.

Her demanding route will feature altitudes of 4,200 metres and climbing for up to 12 hours a day.

Pam said she hoped to raise at least £5,000 for the charity.

She added: “I’ve known and met many lovely people who’ve faced the diagnosis of breast cancer over the years. I wanted to take on this challenge to raise money for Breast Cancer Care and support others facing a diagnosis.

“In the past I’ve organised sponsored walks in Haworth and with the help of local like-minded folk we raised £10,000.

“This year on December 28 I’m asking people to join us for a sponsored walk to Haworth’s Bronte Waterfalls.

“It’s about six miles and will be a lovely way to walk off a Christmas dinner while raising money for a worthwhile cause.”

Anyone wishing to take part in the Haworth walk can contact ohla lahaworth@aol.com or call 078112 13716.

Pam said: “Thanks to everyone who has sponsored me so far. I’m looking forward to the challenge and hope to reach my fundraising target.”

Steve Grogan, sporting and challenge manager at Breast Cancer Care, said: “We’re so grateful to Pam for doing this and wish her the best of luck.

“The money Pam raises will help us provide care, support and information to help thousands of people to find a way to live with, through and beyond breast cancer.

“It’s vital that our services remain free.

“They are a lifeline to people diagnosed with breast cancer.”
