'I don't believe in quitting': Amputee trains for 5K to benefit breast cancer
Joseph Cole lost his left leg in 2015, but that’s not slowing him down. The 76-year-old amputee is training for a 5K race that benefits breast cancer awareness in Florida.
Cole's niece is a breast cancer survivor, and he was challenged by his son to participate.
The Vietnam War veteran, former business owner and retired minister is no stranger to hardship and perseverance.
"I had my aorta valve replaced and my leg amputated," Cole said.
Now, he trains five days a week to prepare for the race on February 10.
"I lost my leg, but not my will to win. So, I'm just going to to ahead and do it. I don't believe in quitting," he added.
Cole says regular workouts are a vital aspect of training, but his family is what really motivates him to keep going.
"I'll be looking for my loved ones there...I know a lot of times when I reach certain goals, I just feel relieved and happy and glad that I made it."
